Gas prices are down in Florida.

Prices are down about 7 cents a gallon in the state. as of Monday, Oct, 7. In the Miami area, prices have decreased 6 cents a gallon in the Miami area — that’s 7.5 cents a gallon less than a month ago and 41 cents cheaper than a year ago, according to industry monitor GasBuddy.

But will the trend continue?

“Oil prices rose last week on concerns that tensions in the Middle East could widen,” said Mark Jenkins, AAA spokesman. “This could contribute to an uptick in pump prices as Floridians prepare for Hurricane Milton.”

Several North Florida areas are averaging less than $3 a gallon as the region remains the cheapest to get gas in the state, in some places about 30 cents less per gallon than South Florida. Palm Beach County is among the most expensive areas for gas.

What the experts are saying

Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy: “While the national average dipped slightly in the last week, Iran’s attack on Israel has at least temporarily caused oil prices to surge to the highest level in months, which could cause the declines to cease for now and could lead to a rise in gas prices for many Americans. In addition to the escalation in the Middle East, hurricane season remains active, with Hurricane Milton now heading toward a likely landfall in Florida. ... For now, motorists in most areas can expect to see more increases in gas prices primarily due to tensions in the Middle East, but I remain hopeful that a $2.99 national average remains possible this fall.“
