MANILA, Philippines–Rain or Shine put on the heat in the final quarter on Tuesday night to dismantle old tormentor San Miguel, 107-93, in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

The Elastopainters bucked the absence of multiple mainstays to beat the retooled powerhouse at Filoil EcoOil Center in San Juan and improve to 2-1 after in the import-laden conference.

“I’m really happy with our effort. And talagang dalawang malalaking isa Eastern and SMB. We’re hoping to close our December with another win,” Rain or Shine head coach Yeng Guiao said while also alluding to his charges’ next assignment against Magnolia Wednesday next week.

Adrian Nocum starred for Rain or Shine with 15 points, five assists and four steals, holding his own against a Beermen backcourt littered with top-shelf talent.

“Inuumpisahan ko lang muna sa depensa, so Kahit sino nasa harap ko. Kahit papano, maganda naman ta kinalabasan non,” the former Mapua playmaker said.

Import Deon Thompson had 18 points to lead all of the Elastopainters. Caelan Tiongson, Felix Lemetti, Keith Datu and Jhonard Clarito added twin-digit scores to lead Nocum’s charge of the locals, who were missing Gian Mamuyac (fractured right hand) and Luis Villegas (reconstruction surgery).

Rain or Shine scored 37 points in the final frame to put San Miguel firmly on the backseat and to a precarious 1-2 card to start the conference.

The Beermen, who are set to field a new import in Torren Jones, play listless Terrafirma this coming Friday.
