India head coach Gautam Gambhir is set to rejoin the tourists in Australia on Tuesdaybitbet, having returned home for “personal reasons”, according to reports. (Full Coverage | More Cricket News)

The 41-year-old missed India’s two-day warm-up game against Prime Minister’s XI, which was reduced to a 50-over game at the Manuka Oval in Canberra following heavy showers on the first day. 

Gambhir flew back on November 26, the scheduled fifth day of the Perth Test. 

India won the 50-over contest against Prime Minister’s XI with six wickets in hand and 19 balls to spare, with Yashasvi Jaiswal (45), Shubman Gill (50), Nitish Kumar Reddy (42), and Washington Sundar (42*) all making runs.

In the bowling department, Harshit Rana was the pick of the bowlers, bagging four wickets, while Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, Prasidh Krishna, Washington Sundar, and Ravindra Jadeja got on the wicket column. 

The second Test between India and Australia will be a day-night affair, and will get underway from December 6, at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide. 

In Gambhir’s absence, Abhishek Nayar, Ryan ten Doeschate, and Morke Morkel took charge and oversaw the training and were also a part of the warm-up fixture in Canberra. 

Gill, who missed the first Test with a fractured thumb, looked fluent and is expected to be back in the playing XI for Adelaidebitbet, whereas Rohit Sharma, who also missed the Perth game, is also back in training.
